WOW! Amazing Program!

Summary: Studying at LTL Tapei is a fantastic experience that will improve your Chinese and give you a memorable and meaningful time in Taipei.
I spent two weeks at LTL Taipei doing an intensive 4-hours/day 1-on-1 classes and have only good things to say about the teachers, staff, and other students.
First, the program provided me with a huge amount of flexibility. Although most students work from textbooks, LTL Taipei was happy to provide me with a customized learning plan to meet specific objectives, even though this required additional work and some creativity from my two teachers, Vivian and Thomas. This was extremely helpful and resulted in me getting just what I needed out of the program from a learning perspective.
Second, both of my teachers were fantastic. Thomas and Vivian are extremely good at breaking down Mandarin concepts in a way that is a perfect fit for my language level. They are both also awesome people and when I left I knew that I had made two new friends.. At my request, they also provided me with 3 ‘Safari Classes’ that took place in interesting parts of Taipei and allowed me to practice my Mandarin in a real environment while learning more about Taipei and Taiwanese culture.
Last, the staff created a strong sense of community. The other students were an eclectic mix of ages, nationalities, backgrounds, and mandarin levels. The staff hosted numerous events, including a daily lunch, mahjong tournament, and a group calligraphy lesson that created an environment for bonds and friendships to form. Even though I was taking 1-on-1 classes, I did not feel isolated from the other students. Special mention goes to Riona, who sets the tone for LTL Taipei. Riona is a natural leader who brings people together while also making them feel at ease. Alice, Ai Lin, Rushi, Manuel, Tammy and Octavia were all also awesome and made me feel at home at LTL Taipei.
At this point I am looking at options to get back to LTL Taipei for a longer period. LTL Taipei is a uniquely fantastic experience and I give it my strongest recommendation.

Pros
  • Flexibility
  • Great Teachers and Staff
  • Fun Events

LTL Mandarin

I had an absolutely fantastic two weeks at LTL Shanghai! Alex was amazing organizing everything and helping fix my mistakes, and the teachers were excellent. Their explanations were very clear and easy to understand, and the lessons were truly tailored to what I was looking for. Evelyn in particular took the time at the beginning of our private lessons to ask what I wanted to get out of lessons, and make sure she understood what I was looking for before we started. If you’re looking for a short-term study program, you can’t find one better than LTL’s!

Pros
  • Fantastic staff
  • Great teachers

Wonderful experience!

I studied at LTL for six months, I opted for a homestay program and took group classes. I really couldn't fault the experience, when I did have an issue with my homestay, the school management helped me sort it out really quickly and overall I had a great time.
Aside from the classes, the school organised lots of different social events and we went to laser tag, pier 5 and dinners together. Plus we had lunch together everyday at local restaurants and I made some really great friends whilst I was there- and of course all the Taipei staff were lovely and added a lot of fun to the experience!

Shanghai LTL

In regards to Shanghai. This was THE BEST experience I could have ever imagined having experienced such an ordeal in Singapore. Due to the fear of staying with a host family like  the one I had in Singapore, I decided to stay at a hotel instead. In Shanghai, LTL has an office in a building where the students are together and able to meet and bond during breaks and lunch. Granted the space was't big, but the common area was great!   The teachers were so professional, experienced and accommodating. Alex, the Shanghai Director, would organize fun activities on a weekly basis and since we all kind of knew each other, it was more inviting.  We had movie nights, Mahjong, Archery, hiking and much more.  All the teachers were so helpful to everyone, even when you are not their students. My teacher spent time teaching me how to cook tea eggs and make tea the traditional way. It wasn't just hit the books with characters and sentence structure, but a more cultural experience built into the language learning experience. Although it was only four weeks that I spent in Shanghai, I felt like I got three months worth, if not more.  I was able to walk into class full of energy and motivation because I was able to study in an air conditioned room with a desk. I really didn't want to leave and will truly miss the teachers and staff.  I highly recommend learning in Shanghai instead of Singapore. The culture and exposure was fully immersed as Singapore is an English speaking country whereas Shanghai is all mandarin.  It was a very memorable experience. Overall Shanghai's environment and people are much more helpful and accomodating.

At the end of the day, Singapore was a blessing in disguise. I am so glad I experienced Singapore, but that I left early. It was a terrible experience which I will post later on google as this reviews is just about the Shanghai team. The only thing that I thought could have been a little better is that the owner Andreas or Irene could have reached out to see how each student was doing from time to time. Just a quick email or FaceTime to see how a student is doing would be a kind gesture.  I understand they have different locations in different countries but it doesn't hurt to spend a few minutes to reach out to provide some service. Perhaps they only check in to new paying students...Andreas did that in Singapore but I did not hear from him once in Shanghai,.

I will be with LTL in Taiwan for another 4 weeks soon so I will give an update review afterwards. In addition, I signed my 10 year old child for a 4 weeks session in Taiwan this summer. Will let you all know how it goes just in case you decide to send your kids there.

Hope this helps.

2 weeks in Shanghai summer 2023

I studied with Alex and Jason at LTL Shanghai for two weeks in May 2023. I did 30 hours a week, including 10-20 hours each week outside the classroom in their “Discover Shanghai” and “Shanghai Safari” programs. I was one of the more advanced students, but the students who were there at the time were everything from absolute beginners to more advanced than me. They also set me up with a Chinese homestay, which was a lot of fun and I learned a lot from as well. Overall I highly recommend LTL. The teachers have degrees in teaching Chinese to foreign learners and their experience shows, they are really talented. The school has a nice environment as well, we often ate lunch together and there were often fun weekend and evening activities both with the teachers and among the students ourselves. The whole operation is very professionally run, with great textbooks they use and a good scheduling system. I was really impressed with every aspect of their program and staff. My Chinese improved a lot during my time and I will definitely go again! Thank you LTL!

Offline and Online 1st Class

I studied with LTL in Singapore and also use their Flexi Classes. Both are excellent ways to learn the language.

The Singapore facility is run smoothly and the home stays are absolutely brilliant. I even had my own gym and pool.

The Flexi classes run 24-7 and you can also learn other languages too, I started Korean for fun. You can choose how often you study so it fits busy schedules. I’m a student and do lots of extra curricular but I can still find time to study with Flexi classes which is so useful for me.

I cannot fault the operation at LTL along with staff and teachers. Highly recommended.

Pros
  • Great staff support
  • 24-7 online learning
  • Amazing homestay

Brand new to learning Mandarin

I am brand new to learning Mandarin, and was a bit apprehensive about starting a full program without any background in the language. LTL has made this an incredibly joyous and easy to navigate experience. Their teachers are knowledgable and friendly and have even customized their lessons for the students in the virtual room. The other day I had a class on food and being hungry and my teacher brought in tons of additional food words to reflect my interests and foods I love. In addition to the wonderful teachers, their office has gone above and beyond to check in periodically and make sure that I am getting the best possible experience from their classes. I would recommend this program to anyone looking to learn Mandarin. I can't wait to learn more and continue with the company!

Excellence

This is a school of excellence. I would recommend it to anyone seeking to learn Chinese. The teachers are excellent and the school is very responsive to any questions or problems you have. You are truly taken care of! I am currently using the online Flexi class program and plan to join the in-person program in Taiwan this summer. This school has so many options, it's hard not to find one that fits! Plus, you can change it at any time as your schedule changes. It's perfect for me as a working professional also trying to squeeze in language learning time.
