Best travel experience ever

Everyone was so nice and welcoming, i was nervous as i was traveling alone for the first time (i’m 17 years old) but the volunteer house was full of people who were 18-38 years old and were all very friendly and welcoming. The food was amazing and the staff were the nicest people i’ve ever met. you have a lot of free time to go sight seeing, i was only there for a week so me and some other volunteers went to the rice fields, waterfalls, shopping and more. i was doing the healthcare program in ubud. this was a very amazing experience. I’m planning to do another trip in december or april.

Pros
  • Lots of free time
  • Making a difference in the community
  • Meeting many interesting people

Sea Turtle Conservation Bali

Overall my time in Nusa Penida was amazing. I was a little nervous going into the trip because it was my first solo trip and wasn't entirely sure what to expect. Upon my arrival in Bali, everyone was so sweet and welcoming which definitely eased my nerves. Additionally, working with the turtles was a crazy experience and I'll never forget my time there. It was so amazing to care for the turtles for a few weeks and then release some into the ocean. If I could recommend something for people volunteering in the future, I would say that a bunch of people met at the orientation week before heading to Nusa Penida, however, I didn't do the orientation week and felt completely fine. I still met so many people from around the world and quickly adjusted.

Pros
  • Meeting people from all over the world
  • Helping the sea turtles
  • Learning more about sea turtles and marine conservation
Cons
  • Not the best food
  • Nusa Penida wasn't a very touristy/social area
  • Rooms had many geckos at times

I Experienced Bali

The support from the International Volunteers HQ and local Green Lion Team was excellent, like working with very good friends.

We were immersed in the local community culture very quickly by everyone in the village. Local people could not do enough for us and their friendship went beyond belief.

The Health Education program had structure but it was down to our own personalities on how we delivered it working with the team and young people. I learnt more than I taught.

I’ve visited many countries but with IVHQ I experienced Bali.

Pros
  • IVHQ support and Green Lions
  • The people from Bali
  • The other volunteers
Cons
  • Should of stayed longer

Bali Turtles

We volunteered as a family working with turtles in Bali. The program was excellent both before and during the time in Bali. Our highlights were feeding turtles and learning more about conservation of these beautiful creatures. The coordinators and other volunteers were lovely, there were many volunteers travelling alone, and there were a lot of opportunities to see more of Nusa Penida and the surrounding islands. The food was excellent. I highly recommend this as an option for families and look forward to returning.

Pros
  • Friendly people
  • Experiencing a different culture
  • Working with and learning about wildlife conservation

Excellent family volunteering experience

My two teenage children and I volunteered for a week in Bali, helping kindergarten kids learn English. The work was fun, the support was excellent, and there was plenty of time after classes to enjoy the country. This is a much more immersive experience than visiting the country purely as a tourist. We learned more of the language and really understood the way the locals live far more than we could have by staying in a hotel. There are plenty of social activities to get to know other volunteers.

Pros
  • cultural immersion
  • that great feeling of giving to the world positively
  • fun/relaxation/food
Cons
  • the third world is inherently a little dangerous!
  • Communication in another language sometimes difficult

Incredible!

I volunteered with IVHQ as a spur of the moment decision (yes travel = therapy!)

I'm honestly going to say that this was the best decision that I've ever made. IVHQ took the majority of the pressure off by giving me in depth and detailed "To-Do" lists to make sure that I was as prepared as possible for my trip. Even though I only booked about 7 weeks in advance I was still prepared and ready to go with a couple of weeks to go!

The trip itself was life changing, working with the turtles was very grounding and rewarding. The local team were absolutely incredible, nothing was too much trouble! Ella (my program manager) was available at all times on email just in case.

My first solo travel adventure.. and I'm SO GLAD it was with IVHQ ❤️🐢

A wonderful experience!

Throughout this experience, everyone was so open and willing to help. IVHQ had constant communication to make sure I completed every step towards preparing for my trip which made it the best it could possibly be! The staff on my program were great and a lot of fun to be around. It was extremely organised and I was never unsure of anything while in my program. I met many amazing people from all around the world whom I will continue to keep in touch with. It exceeded all my expectations and was a truly wonderful experience :)

Amazing experience

I loved being a volunteer at the Turtle Conservation in Nusa Penida. The staff was really helpful and easy to work with. I was able to learn a bit more about sea turtles, I did my best to help with the work in the conservation (cleaning the tanks and feeding the turtles) as well as beach cleaning and finally release our lovely friends back into the sea. There was a good balance between the work and the free time I used to explore the island and I was able to take a Friday off to spend the weekend in the Gili islands too.I made many friends and I felt I was giving back to the environment and the community. I would definitely recommend the experience to anyone.

Pros
  • Fulfilling
  • Environment friendly
  • Easy to socialise

Questions & Answers

It depends on where you are going and how long you are staying. For Indonesia, you do not need one if you are staying less than 30 days.

In Ubud, the total fees will be at least US$1,979. You can opt to pay for more flexibility if you like too :)
